Intel is moving slowly but their prices are finally getting lower.
The fastest Intel CPU is still the 1.0GHz PIII, which comes to $463.
Best buys this week are the 866MHz and 850MHz PIII models, which can be had for just under $235. Keep in mind that these are still high-end CPU's, which make excellent upgrade options. If you prefer to spend a little less, then the Pentium III 667MHz is your best bet.
The absolute low-end CPU from Intel is the Celeron FC-PGA, which offers good performance for the price. Celerons seem to be moving a little slower, and at this point the 566MHz model is the best buy for this week.
Overall Intel is dropping prices in anticipation of the P4 line of CPU's, but it's still not enough to satisfy many people who would like to see a real Intel vs. AMD price-war.
